Mother’s Day has never been about perfection.
It’s not the perfectly set table or the uninterrupted morning. More often, it looks like a mix of things - beautiful, busy, a little messy, and constantly moving. And in many ways, that’s exactly what makes it meaningful.
As a mum, I’ve come to see the day differently over time. It’s less about big gestures, and more about small moments. A slower start to the morning. Time spent together. A pause, even if it’s brief, to take it all in.
Life doesn’t really stop, even on Mother’s Day. There are still things to do, people to care for, and the usual rhythm of the day. But there’s something in acknowledging it. In recognising the role, the weight of it, and also the quiet joy in it.
That perspective has shaped how we approach design at Pelli.
We don’t design for perfect days. We design for real ones. The full ones, the unpredictable ones, the ones where you’re carrying more than you planned to. The pieces we create are meant to support that - practical, considered, and easy to live with.
Because the truth is, motherhood is not neat. It’s layered. It’s constant. It asks a lot of you. And the things you use every day should make that feel easier, not more complicated.
Mother’s Day is a reminder of that. Not just to celebrate, but to appreciate the everyday. The routines, the effort, the care that often goes unseen.
It’s also made me think more deeply about what we pass on. Not just to our children, but to the world they grow up in. The choices we make, the things we bring into our homes, and the impact they leave behind.
Living close to the ocean, and spending time taking part in beach clean-ups, has only reinforced that for me. You start to see how small things add up. What we choose matters.
That thinking sits quietly behind everything we create at Pelli. Not in a loud way, but in a considered one. Choosing better where we can. Designing pieces that last. Focusing on what is necessary, and letting go of what isn’t.
Mother’s Day, in its simplest form, is about care. And that’s something that carries through everything we do.
To all the mums, in all the forms that takes - today is for you.
